Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach

About Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income individuals and families afford healthy food. Benefits are loaded onto an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, which works like a debit card and can be used at grocery stores, farmers markets, and other places that sell food. In addition to groceries, SNAP also allows you to purchase fruit- and vegetable-bearing plants so you can grow your own food at home.

The CAC Office on Aging’s SNAP Outreach Program is a free service that helps adults age 60 and older learn how simple it can be to apply for SNAP. We work to clear up common misconceptions about the program and offer one-on-one support throughout the application process. The only way to know if you qualify is to apply—and we’re here to help every step of the way.

Tennessee ranks 3rd in the nation for senior food insecurity (Source: US Census Bureau)

Double Up Food Bucks

Double Up Food Bucks is a SNAP-doubling program offered at Nourish Knoxville farmers markets throughout the year. This means that anyone receiving SNAP benefits can get up to $20 per day in FREE Double Up Food Bucks tokens to be used on any fresh fruit or vegetable at the market. This means that if you swipe your EBT card for $10, you’ll get an additional $10 in tokens. Swipe for $20, get $20 extra in tokens!
