About Grandparents as Parents

Launched in 2000, Grandparents as Parents is dedicated to creating a sense of community for grandparents and other relative caregivers. The program offers support, information, and connections to vital services—reminding caregivers that they are not alone.

Eligibility

Any grandparent or relative caregiver in the East Tennessee area is welcome to join Grandparents as Parents. There are no income or age requirements.

Grandparents as Parents Guidebook

The 3rd edition of the Grandparents as Parents Guidebook, published in 2024, offers support, guidance, and local resources for grandparents and other relative caregivers. Available at no cost in both print and online, the guide is here to help anyone who needs it. While it focuses on Knox County, it also includes helpful information for families in Anderson, Blount, Loudon, and Sevier counties.

You are not alone. Come connect with others who understand!

Grandparents as Parents invites you to join our monthly Grandfamilies Together conference call and in-person meeting. Each gathering features guest speakers on topics relevant to relative caregivers, plus time to share experiences and build connections with others on a similar journey. GAP also offers a monthly newsletter filled with resources, updates, and helpful tips. All meetings and newsletters are free and open to the public.
