AmeriCorps Seniors

The Office on Aging’s AmeriCorps Seniors programs tap the skills, talents, and experience of persons age 55 and older to meet a wide range of community challenges through four programs: RSVP, Senior Care Calls, the Foster Grandparent Program, and the Senior Companion Program.

AmeriCorps Seniors Programs

Foster Grandparent Program

Since 1976, the Foster Grandparent Program has provided one-onone mentoring, nurturing, and support to children with special or exceptional needs, or who are in circumstances that limit their academic, social, or emotional development. Foster Grandparents serve from 15 to 40 hours a week.

Retired & Senior Volunteer Program

Since 1982, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has matched older adults who are willing to help with local organizations on the front lines of meeting community needs. RSVP projects link the skills of the volunteers with the identified needs of the community. There are over 25 volunteer experiences available in the Knox and Blount County area.

Senior Companion Program

Since 1988, the Senior Companion Program has made a difference by providing assistance and friendship to adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks. The Senior Companions assist these adults to retain their dignity and remain independent in their homes rather than having to move to more costly institutional care. Senior Companions serve from 15 to 40 hours a week.
