Respite
Short-term relief for the family caregiver by providing a trained substitute caregiver, either in or outside the home. Adult day services and homemakers, sitters & in-home services also provide care for an older person and time off for a caretaker. Some nursing homes, retirement centers, assisted care living facilities, and residential homes for the aged offer weekend and vacation respite, space permitting, but be aware that space, especially in nursing homes, is often limited. Private pay; some long-term-care insurance policies cover respite.
