Project LIVE (Living Independently through Volunteer Efforts)

The goal of Project LIVE (Living Independently through Volunteer Efforts) is to keep Knox County seniors (age 60+) living in their choice of residence as long as possible. The program’s primary focus is to serve homebound seniors who have limited support systems and who are unable to pay for necessary minor home repairs or safety modifications to be able to stay safely in their own homes.

Project LIVE uses grant money it receives to purchase materials and then uses volunteers who offer their expertise and service to make essential repairs and safety modifications. Volunteers also perform a variety of indoor and outdoor chores for seniors served by Project LIVE.

Project LIVE welcomes individuals or groups to volunteer. Volunteers can set up their own time to assist seniors, depending on their own schedules, including week nights and weekends.

“I just wanted to give something back, to show that I care. I never knew how much I would get in return.” –a Project LIVE volunteer

Case Management

Case management is an integral part of what Project LIVE does. Case management begins with an in-home assessment that identifies the senior’s strengths as well as the needs they have that affect their everyday functioning and endangers their independence. After the assessment is completed, the case manager makes a “care plan,” which creates goals for the senior and sets out plans for arranging help for them, according to the situation. The care plan allows the senior, their family members, and the care manager to work together to identify those services that can be provided by family or friends and those that are available in the community to help the senior remain safely and independently at home.
