Daily Living Center
The Daily Living Center, a component of the John T. O’Connor Senior Center, is a licensed adult day care program with the mission of providing community-based services to Knox County residents age 60 or older who are in need of a structured program that will develop or improve daily living skills, foster independence through social interaction, and allow the individual to remain in the community rather than be institutionalized.
The program is directed toward senior adults with low incomes or who are receiving Adult Protective Services from the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Income eligibility and fee structure are established by the Tennessee Department of Human Services Social Service Block Grant guidelines.
Most participants pay little or nothing. The Daily Living Center’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The program is located at
3900 Probus Road, in the Christenberry Heights housing development. Referrals for
admission can be made by calling the Daily Living Center at 689-8412.
Number of people served
- 30 persons attended the Daily Living Center.
- 3,271 days of service were provided.
Accomplishments/Achievements for the year
- Average daily attendance was 13 seniors.
- Staff received training in CPR, first aid, and adult protective services.
- Increased community awareness of the program through networking resulted in an increased number of referrals.
- Continued to provide adult day care as a Medicaid Waiver provider.
- KCDC renovated the building and added a beautiful new porch.
- Held an open house for community agencies and caregivers.
