Family Caregiver Support Program

The National Family Caregiver Support Program is a federally funded program that offers information, assistance, counseling, support, training, respite care, and supplemental services for caregivers.

Anyone of any age who is caring for a senior age 60 years or older is eligible to participate in the NFCSP. In addition, grandparents and other senior relatives (age 60-plus) who are the primary caregivers of minor children (age 18 or younger) are also eligible to receive services from the program.

Information about available services and referrals to those services are available to anyone. The program also provides assistance in accessing the services available and provides counseling, support groups and training to anyone of any age or in any caregiving situation who needs these services.

Respite care and supplemental services are offered on a limited basis, and there is often a waiting list for these services. Respite care includes adult day care; short-term, in-home respite; and overnight respite for caregivers of seniors and for senior caregivers of minor children. Supplemental services include personal emergency response systems, assistance with purchasing medical supplies not covered by insurance, and assistance with minor home repairs or modifications. Again, these services are offered on a limited basis, and there is often a waiting list for some of the services.
